Nethy Dharma Somba Papuan businesspeople are calling for more involvement in projects in the province, saying they wanted to be active participants instead of outsiders.
Radya Wanggai from the Papua branch of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said that whenever a project was underway in Papua, local businesspeople were rarely involved. |

After decades of continuous rule under the Suharto regime, Indonesia democratically elected President Abdurrahman Wahid in October 1999. Wahid publicly announced that the Indonesian government should accept blame for part of West Papua/Irian Jaya's difficulties and that reform would be instituted promptly. In an even more unexpected move, Wahid, who had spent New Year's Day 2000 in West Papua/Irian Jaya, announced that the name of the region should once again be changed back to West Papua. |

Special Autonomy (Otsus) Papua Province, which is mandated in the Law. 21 Year in 2001, has been running about nine years. More appropriate in today's age can already benefit the people of Papua, but in reality it reaps a lot of controversy, both from the substance, interpretation and Implementation, which is caused by so fast dynamics. Even the discourse appears to restore the special autonomy. The Indonesian government should have a good commitment in implementing the special autonomy. So the weakness in Otsus not politicized by foreign interests, government officials and separatist groups for their interests.

 History of Jayapura In the book of Nagara-Kertagama writen by Rakawi Prapanca of Majapahit, under the rule of King Hayam Wuruk, in 1365 A.D, it was mentioned that West Papua was belong to Majapahit Kingdom territory. In one of its paragraphs mentioned “Muwah tikhan i wandan, ambwan (Ambon) athawa maloko wwanin (Fakfak)” were the sovereign territory of Majapahit Kingdom. |
