Two police officers injured in Papuan village brawl

Two police officers suffered injuries from arrow shots while trying to end a brawl between residents of two kampongs in Kwamki Lama, Timika, Mimika District, Papua Province, on Thursday.

Chief brigadier Kanisius was shot in his chest, and Brigadier II Antar in his left hand, said Mimika Police Chief Senior Adjunct Commissioner M Sagi in response to ANTARA`s question.

The Origin of Separatist Movement in Papua

Separatism movement emerge in Papua because of Dutch Political ambition to retain control over Papua. But this did not automatically bring to an end the problem of Papuan separatism, for the problem has strong roots that can be traced back to the time when Indonesia was fighting to defend its independence from the Dutch. While there were a good number of Papuans who joined the struggle of Indonesia for independence at that time, the Dutch were also able to turn a small number of Papuan circles against Indonesia.

VP to chair meeting on accelerated development in Papua

ImageVice President Boediono was scheduled to chair a meeting on acceleration of development in Papua and West Papua, at his office here Tuesday.

The meeting was expected to be attended by team members of the Presidential Instruction No.5/2007 on the Acceleration of Development in Papua and West Papua, and the Presidential Instruction No. 7/2008 on the Acceleration of Development in Central Sulawesi.
