Special Autonomy (Otsus) Papua Province, which is mandated in the Law. 21 Year in 2001, has been running about nine years. More appropriate in today's age can already benefit the people of Papua, but in reality it reaps a lot of controversy, both from the substance, interpretation and Implementation, which is caused by so fast dynamics. Even the discourse appears to restore the special autonomy. The Indonesian government should have a good commitment in implementing the special autonomy. So the weakness in Otsus not politicized by foreign interests, government officials and separatist groups for their interests.

Govt urged to investigate reported uranium mining activity in Papua

The government should immediately form a team to investigate allegations that US-based PT Freeport Indonesia is mining uranium in Papua, a legislator said.

Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), Hazrul Azwar, said here on Thursday, "It is necessary for the government to immediately form a special investigation team to check the truth of allegations that PT Freeport Indonesia is mining uranium in Papua."

ImageAlthough the image of Puncak Jaya, Papua, is identical to the shootings and killings of terrorist acts by separatists of the Free Papua Organization during the past two years, but it Regents Luke Enembe proclaimed mountain regions as tourist destinations starting this year.

"With a height of 3000 meters, Puncak Jaya has a million of wealth and natural beauty, this is what we sell Mountains as a tourist destination," said Luke Enembe Regent at his home in Puncak Jaya, Tuesday, June 29, 2010.
